My name is Dikshaa and I am a resident of Haridwar, a religious city of Uttrakhand. My age is 07 years and I am in 2nd standard in Maa Anandmayee Memorial School Raiwala.
On 25 Mar 20, honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi declared complete lockdown in India, every school, every college, every shop, everything was totally shut and locked. Nobody was allowed to step out of his/her house. Main problem was with students like us whom were desperate to know about their regular classes as well as other important classes like music and art classes. Our parents were also tensed about the situation as well as our academic progresses. Everyone was worried that what will happen if the same situation continues throughout the year.
After a few weeks, Geeta, my mother received a message from my school that the classes will be online now. Now, I and my Mom were busy in arranging the things. We made a temporary phone stand with some equipments available in our home. While my Mom was excited about my academic classes I was waiting desperately for my art classes as I am very fond of making arts and drawing etc.
The things happened accordingly to my wishes not as per of my mother’s. The very first class was the art class. My teacher asked whole class to show some arts in the next class. I was very happy. But then came the main issue. From where I will get my drawing material as each and every stationary shop was closed. The idea of making junk art suddenly came into my mind. I told same to my mother.
Junk art is normally made with scraps and other waste metals or materials. I checked out for store of my house but I was disappointed as there was nothing with which I can make some arts to present in my class next day. Then my mother suggested me to make arts with vessels present in our kitchen. I ran towards our kitchen and picked a number of vessels.
Now, the main point of focus was that what to make and how to make as I was trying it for the very first time in my life. Being a resident of a religious city of Lord Shiva, I decided to make something related to Lord Shiva. I took help of my mother and prepared the “The Third Eye of Lord Shiva”. I presented few pictures of the same in art in the class next day. My art teacher as well as my classmates appreciated it very much and said it a very unique art. I was very pumped up, enthused and moral was very high after all the comments. The same art is on the next page (pic ‘a’).
After that my next class was scheduled to be held after one week. But now I was thinking about making more arts with same material. Next day I was riding my bicycle in my house and idea of making a cycle in form of junk art came in my mind and in the very next moment I started working on it. I prepared a cycle with vessels. Picture of same is on next page (pic ‘b’). On day of Raksha Bandhan, I made a very special Rakhi with spoons and cups etc (pic ‘c”). I presented all these pictures in my next art class and the appreciations from my teachers as well as my classmates were of another level. They were very happy and my classmates were very inspired after seeing my arts.
On occasion of Independence Day, I made tricolor with same material. It was personally my favorite art. I was feeling very patriotic after looking at my art (pic ‘d’). Later on, I made many arts like OM, sunflower, a dangerous witch, a mango, a robot, a rat and Lord Ganesha.
I am very happy with all my work and looking forward to present them in my school in various events. The lockdown situation in country was very difficult without any doubt. But as our Prime Minister said “Aapda ko Avsar main bdlo” that is “Convert the challenges in opportunities”, I worked on same agenda. This lockdown taught me how to take maximum output from minimum resources. Theses junk art taught me to be positive even in the worst conditions and I am receiving a lot of appreciations from my teachers and my classmates. This all could not have been possible without guidance of my mother and my teachers. You people can count on me that I will definitely bring many more arts in front of you.
